Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre Appeal
The inhealth program is committed to seeing Olivia’s dream come true, that’s why we are proud supporters of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre Appeal.
The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre will be a world leading cancer treatment centre which believes
in treating the ‘whole’ patient, combining the best clinical practices with a leading Wellness Centre.
A century-old tradition of cancer care at Australia’s own Austin Health will form the most solid of foundations for the planned Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre. Based on an on-going collaboration between Austin Health and the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, the Centre will merge the best in clinical treatment and research with patient-centred, complementary care.
The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre will offer patients an innovative approach to treating the whole patient, combining the best clinical practices along with a world leading, specially designed Wellness Centre. In line with Olivia's dedication to the promotion of patient-centred, wellness programs, this centre will focus on the needs of the whole person.
The Wellness Centre will provide much needed space to further develop some patient-centred aspects of care, such as relaxation, massage and meditation, as well as providing education and information for patients and their families.
It will be a tranquil and inspirational space for patients to actively balance the various aspects of their treatment, including a combination of 'quiet space' for reflection and 'community space' for the sharing of ideas, experiences and support.
Olivia Newton-John is lending her name to the Cancer Centre because she believes passionately in its philosophy. Her vision is a Wellness Centre that encompasses and amalgamates all the senses: sight, sound, touch, taste and smell. It will be a calm, quiet place where patients and their carers can come and reflect, to have a massage, or to meditate and to have a place dedicated to the non-medical aspects of their treatment. The outcome is an environment that allows patients to begin to make some sense of their disease and its effect on them.
The Wellness Centre will provide patient-centred support to patients already diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families and carers. It will focus on core complementary treatments and existing support programs such as:
- Living with Cancer
- Look Good Feel Better
- Personal and family support
- Peer support groups
- Massage
- Exercise
- Nutrition
- Relaxation
- Meditation
- Art Therapy
- Music Therapy
- Aromatherapty
Building of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre is expected to start in 2008.
